Four female athletes’ stories ended in tragedy in the hands of intimate partners, but that is not where the gender-based violence story ends. Other women in sports have and continue to face physical sexual and emotional abuse, as well as financial control.
Some like Agnes Tirop, Rebecca Cheptegei, Edith Muthoni and Damaris Muthee did not make it out alive, while some left but still bare emotional and physical scars.
